The village of Calverton is roughly seven miles north-east of Nottingham and is full of many beautiful cottages and period properties that are perfect for the versatility of window shutters.
Shutters are not only used for protection from sunlight against fading, but also often for decorative purposes, increasing the kerb appeal of any property. Since their earliest incarnations, plantation shutters have come a long way and are now available in a variety of sizes, styles and finishes.
When it comes to things you can do to decorate your house, you have a lot of options to choose from. Pure white shutters continue to be the most popular choice, but wood stained finishes provide an elegant alternative, giving a contemporary twist to a traditional material.

Throughout much of its history, Calverton has been a forest village, in that part of Sherwood known as Thorney Wood Chase. The local economy was somewhat limited by a lack of grazing land, so the rural output tended to be dominated by other handicrafts such as woodworking and the knitting of stockings. This was assisted by the first stocking frame knitting machine which was invented by William Lee in 1589, a local curate turned inventor.
The village grew significantly in the 20th century thanks to the growth of local industry around a fish farm, and colliery that opened in 1952. Just over 50 years later, the colliery was closed in 1993, only to reopen the following year and close its doors for the last time in 1999. Since its closure, Calverton has assumed the character of a large commuter village.
The Anglican parish church in Calverton is dedicated to Saint Wilfrid (or Wilfred). The village also has a Cemetery next to Mansfield Lane, which was formed in 1886, with a small unconsecrated mortuary chapel.
